We consistently assess reading and math skills and provide early intervention by specialists and tutoring to children needing extra help. Parents have 24-hour online access to their student’s grades.

Primary

First and second graders take the Texas Primary Reading Inventory three times per school year. Students identified as needing extra help are able to work with our Reading Intervention Specialist.

Third Grade & Intermediate

Teachers monitor the math and reading performance of intermediate students and third graders using Sylvan Learning curriculums and assessments, as well as the STAAR Test Maker system. Students needing extra support in math or reading are eligible to participate in Sylvan Learning Ace It! Tutoring.

Beyond Classroom Learning

Texas Prep teachers are encouraged to schedule field trips and guest speakers to boost classroom learning with real-life experiences. In our Technology Applications class, students use hands-on technology projects to apply classroom knowledge to real-world situations.

Parent Involvement

Parents are invited to meet with teachers during the fourth of every six weeks during the school year to discuss their student’s triumphs and concerns. We recognize the importance of notifying parents in advance and working with parents’ scheduling needs.

Elementary Fine Arts

One of the unique things about Texas Prep is that because the Boys & Girls Club of South Central Texas organized the school’s charter, all Texas Prep students are exposed to fine arts daily through these Boys & Girls Clubs of America programs:

Drama Matters

Drama builds confidence, sparks creativity and boosts academic performance. Drama Matters provides students the opportunity to practice acting, producing, playwriting and improvisation.

National Fine Arts Exhibit Program

This year-round program encourages artistic expression through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture. Using an interactive guide, teachers guide students through projects with step-by-step instructions and instructional videos. Art class pieces are displayed in a local exhibit, with a chance to be displayed regionally and selected for display online and throughout the next year at Boys and Girls Clubs of America events, including the national conference

Music Makers

To establish a foundation for lifelong love of music, music instruction includes genres, terminology, instrument families, rhythm and song and dance.
